Starting salary: $37,627/yr or $338,771/yr.  with 3 years of experience
Serves court orders and processes issued by the State Attorney, Public Defender, all Criminal and Civil Courts, and/or attorneys. #oj

Minimum Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND one (1) year related OR an Associate's degree (A.A. or A.S.) or higher in general studies or criminal justice AND no related experience. Related experience to include: customer service and/or court, judicial, or legal clerical work.
  • Must have valid Florida driver’s license. 
  • Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam. 
  • Must complete Non-Enforceable Service of Process training and FCIC/NCIC certification within one (1) year of employment. 
  • Must maintain certifications listed above once achieved.
  • Receives court documents to be served in Orange County.
  • Conducts minor investigations using various investigative tools to locate persons being served.
  • Serves court documents to defendants or respondents.
  • Maintains records, statistics, and daily logs. Efficiently records time, date, and location of service including the method of service and the person served. Uses electronic tracking device that records an automated return of service to the Orange County State Attorney’s Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as court documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak before citizens, customers, and/or agency employees. 
  • Must have interpersonal skills, including the ability to stay calm when dealing with disgruntled citizens. 
  • Must have basic computer skills to include researching on the internet and word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk, hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, and get in and out of a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Duties are performed in both office and field settings. Considerable local travel is required. May be required to work weekends, nights and/or irregular hours. Exposure to inclement weather may occur. Employee is required to locate defendant/witness; situation could be potentially dangerous. Minimal exposure to bodily fluids and/or blood may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
