Starting salary: $60,444.80/yr or $62,862.59/yr with 4 years of full-time law enforcement officer experience.


Provides secure transport for jury panels and inmates. Assists as third officer in criminal courtrooms.  Conducts inmate ordering. Provides other services within the Orange County Courthouse. #oj


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be Florida Corrections Officer Certified:  Must have successfully completed the Florida Corrections Officer Certification from a Florida law enforcement academy and a passing score on the Florida corrections officer certification exam
  • Accredited high school or GED diploma. (Will not accept a certificate of completion.)
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.  
  • U.S. Citizen. 
  • Valid driver's license for the last year. 
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony. 
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence. 
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces. 
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Good verifiable work history.
  • Prior Corrections experience required.  
  • Must maintain Florida Corrections certification by performing mandatory retraining as set forth by the CJSTC (Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission) guidelines.  
  • Ability to provide safe, secure and orderly transport of inmates from the Orange County Courthouse jail facility to courtrooms for trial and hearings.
  • Ability to act as the third officer in criminal courtrooms. Fingerprint inmates/defendants and collect DNA swabs.  Supervise inmates in the courtroom to prevent altercations, intimidation, undesirable or illegal acts.  When necessary, help secure a safe and secure environment within the courtroom. 
  • Ability to escort and oversee jury panels to and from the courtroom.
  • Ability to complete security documentation as needed. Complete and maintain required records, logs and reports.
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively on the radio. 
  • Must be able to learn to communicate using approved radio signals and codes.  
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. 
  • Must be able to successfully complete a position training program.  
  • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).  
  • Must have working knowledge of the following equipment: handcuffs, leg irons, waist chains and electronic restraint devices.  
  • Must be able to multi-task.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, close vision, color vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.  The job may require climbing stairs if the courthouse elevators are not operational. Must be able to wear an ear piece for extended periods of time. Must be able to engage in violent and physical confrontations including fighting with inmates/defendants and/or re-directing them to the ground.  Must be able to physically secure a resisting inmate/defendant with the appropriate restraints after a physical confrontation.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but at times can be loud.   Physical activity required.  Minimal exposure to bodily fluids and/or blood may occur. The employee may be required to work irregular hours to include some weekends
