Teacher - Special Education

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at Orange Elementary as a Special Education Teacher. This full-time position involves working with students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive the support and resources necessary to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of special education practices, demonstrate patience and empathy, and foster an inclusive classroom environment that promotes the growth and development of all students.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to create an inclusive learning environment.
• Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching strategies and interventions as needed.
• Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, social skills, and life skills to students with varying disabilities.
• Create a positive, engaging, and safe classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
• Advocate for students’ needs and rights within the school and community.
• Support students in developing self-advocacy and independence skills.
• Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists) to coordinate services for students.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field
• Valid teaching certification in Special Education or willing to obtain.
• Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with diverse learning needs.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing IEP documentation and student records.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
