The Orange County Medical Examiner is searching for a Prof. On Call (Forensic Technician). Once trained, an employee in a position assigned to this classification is responsible for assisting the Medical Examiner with autopsies, photographic documentation, fingerprinting, processing and submitting tissue for microscopic examination, collecting body fluids and tissues for toxicological examination, taking measurements and weights, trace evidence and injury data. Provides accountability of evidence and personal effects, forensic photography, performs x-ray examinations and processes x-ray images and all needed technical support.
Work is performed under the close supervision and direction of the Medical Examiner or assigned supervisor, who evaluates performance based on technical knowledge demonstrated in performing assigned duties. This is an On Call position.
Job Description
Representative Duties/Assignments:
Assists in the receiving, fingerprinting and dissection of deceased persons being brought to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Inventories or confirms inventory of personal property, medications, and clothing.
Assists in the collection and preservation for submission of tissues for histological examination and body fluids and tissues for toxicological examination.
Takes and develops x-rays.
Assists in the collection and preservation of trace evidence.
Assists in photographing, accounting, storing, and releasing of evidence to authorized personnel
Coordinates with funeral homes for proper authorizations and arranges for pick-up of deceased persons.

Clean and prepare the morgue and deceased persons after the examination for storage and release.
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Forensic Science, Biological Science, Health Science, Mortuary Science, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; or two years of experience as an autopsy or forensic technician/assistant or two years of experience in a closely related field.
