What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Technician IV position at Orange County Government?
The work involves the responsibility for performing preventive maintenance to HVAC systems and controls, electrical delivery systems and stand-by generators as-well-as making repairs to County buildings and infrastructure (i.e. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and door/window locks). An employee in this class is responsible for coordinating with contracted services for installations and major repairs.
Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Serves as a lead to all Facilities Maintenance Technicians.
* This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Background Check is required. Fitness for Duty Assessment is required.
This position may require an SBI background check with fingerprinting due to the passing of GS 2025-16 effective 10/1/2025.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a High School or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency AND seven (7) years of work experience in the maintenance and/or renovations/repairs including the four building trades AND four (4) years of supervisory or team lead experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends.
Must be available for on-call response and the management of facilities issues as part of an on-call schedule and able to respond to inclement weather conditions that may affect County facilities and operations as well as community emergency response, Red Cross assistance and Emergency Services support during declared state of emergency operations.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Possession of or ability to obtain CFC Universal certification within six (6) months of hire.
Possession of NC Standard Level I Trade Certifications in Building, Electrical, Mechanical and/or Plumbing, HVAC and/or Heating/Air certification is preferred.
May be required to obtain specific technical certifications, as deemed necessary by supervisor.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check, Fitness-for-Duty assessment, and pre-employment drug testing. Participation in the County’s Drug and Alcohol Program is required.
Salary : $52,641 - $61,045
