Facilities Maintenance Technician
Job Summary: Performs work associated with repair and maintenance in various trades including carpentry, plumbing, and painting, within the assigned school area.
Terms of Employment: 12 months, with salary to be determined by State Salary Schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs work associated with the maintenance and repair of fixtures, equipment, and systems across various trades.
- Performs entry-level or journeyman-level responsibilities as assigned.
- Performs duties and tasks assigned by the Maintenance and Environmental Safety Supervisor.
- Responsible for procedure compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, required safety training as specified in the Safety Manual, occupational health practices, and establishing a safe work environment.
- Responsible for receiving, informing, and giving information in a timely manner related to issues such as safe work practices, wasted resources, errors not readily apparent or easy to detect, and non-compliance to procedures and work processes and procedures that could improve performance or reduce costs.
- Responsible for using independent judgment and judicious application of procedures, methods, and practices.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to do required jobs well with minimal supervision.
- Ability to demonstrate an independent effort to improve the quality and quantity of a job, which includes identifying a problem, obstacle, or opportunity and taking action.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to occasionally push or pull up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently push or pull up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to move machinery safely.
- Must be able to frequently perform the following: work on ladders, handling, and reaching.
- Must be able to occasionally perform the following: climbing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, overhead lifting, stooping, fine manipulation, bending, keying, and balancing.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency
- Minimum of three years of experience in a related field.
- Must be qualified and able to perform the responsibilities of the tasks of the position accurately. Must be able to read, interpret and comply with department procedures, provide attention to detail, and minimize errors.
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements. May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License, if necessary.
- Regular exposure to some disagreeable environmental factors (e.g., temperature, noise, and fumes) and regular periods of sustained mental and physical effort (e.g., pressure to react accurately and quickly, lifting and moving large objects) may be required.
