Performs responsible administrative and caseworker duties in interviewing applicants to determining eligibility for program assistance.

Medical Assistance Interviewer
Associate's degree and two years of experience in, (based on area of assignment), real estate, case management, assessment or administrative experience in the area of social services or public assistance; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training or experience.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

General Functions:
Performs responsible administrative and caseworker duties in interviewing applicants to determining eligibility for program assistance.
Representative Jobs / Assignments
Medical Assistance Interviewer
- Works directly with Case Managers to coordinate patient care.
- Manages and coordinates medical referrals for Orange County Medical Clinic patients and supporting the Ryan White program thru the Electronic Health Record system.
- Communicates directly with patients, giving and receiving information.
- Utilizes the computer system according to departmental protocols to include accurate data entry and retrieval of information for referral purposes.
- Receives inquiries and requests, and performs research and responds accordingly.
- Performs data collection and data entry, following through and documenting the interaction.
- Processes referrals and maintains quality documentation on each authorization.
- Maintains close communications with clinical offices, to ensure that referrals are completed and followed up per requirements.
- Solves problems independently or in a team environment
- Interprets and communicates program guidelines.
- Exercises independent judgement in making eligibility determination, determining financial status, screening for other resources and overall suitability of applicant for program.
- Interprets and communicates program guidelines.
- Performs word processing or data entry on a personal computer or mainframe terminal. Prepares forms, documents and correspondence as needed to execute program. Performs basic mathematical calculations.
- May coordinate the delivery of assistance. Processes interim changes for program participants.
- Solves routine problems, answers questions, and responds to inquires.
- Insures compliance with all laws, codes and policies relative to program applied for.
- Compiles case files, maintains logs, and schedules appointments.
