Job Description
General Functions:
This job classification provides broad administrative support to the County Mayor / Commissioner. An incumbent in this position performs a variety of duties requiring working knowledge of County departments and operations. Duties include researching rules, regulations and policies for the Mayor or Commissioners. Work is performed with considerable independence and little direct supervision.
This position also supports strategic communications, public information efforts, and digital engagement, including content development for social media, website updates, and public messaging on behalf of the Mayor/Commissioner.
Representative Duties/Assignments:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of administrative support / secretarial experience or an equivalent combination of higher education and experience.
Preferences:
Experience managing social media accounts for a public agency, organization or elected official.
Familiarity with digital marketing tools (e.g., social media scheduling platforms, basic analytics).
Knowledge of public information practices and media relations.
Basic graphic design or content creation skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools) preferred.
Strong understanding of audience engagement and public messaging.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Serves as a confidential administrative aide to the County Mayor/Commissioner.
- Receives and responds to public inquiries or refers the caller to the appropriate county department or staff member.
- Plans, coordinates and completes a variety of complex administrative duties including research and report writing.
- Establishes and maintains files and records of inquiries, questions and comments from the public.
- Receives and reviews incoming mail; composes and signs routine correspondence for the Mayor or Commissioner.
- Establishes and maintains filing systems, research materials and other information on county operations for the Mayor or Commissioner's use in public speaking, press releases and other official business.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with County staff who serve as research or information sources.
- Develops, drafts and schedules content for official social media platforms to promote initiatives, events, and public information.
- Creates and distributes marketing and communication materials, including newsletters, press releases and digital campaigns.
- Coordinates with departments to gather content and ensure consistent messaging across communication channels.
- Monitors social media accounts and public feedback; escalates issues and responds to inquiries as appropriate.
- Maintains and updates website content and other digital platforms.
- Assists in planning and promoting public events, community outreach efforts and campaigns.
- Assists other Mayor or Commissioner staff members with projects when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
