Data Network Engineer (Full Time, Contract;Hybrid in Charlotte, North Carolina)

Optomi, in partnership with a major energy company, is seeking a highly skilled Data Network Engineer. In this role, you’ll design and deliver enterprise network solutions, collaborating directly with architects to turn strategy into reality across large-scale environments. You’ll configure Cisco routing and switching, influence network standards, produce engineering documentation/job packages, and guide technicians through site deployment. This position supports critical infrastructure modernization, contributing to new builds, upgrades, and network transformation initiatives while serving as an escalation point for complex routing and switching scenarios. Responsibilities:

• Design and implement enterprise network solutions aligned to architecture standards.
• Configure Cisco routing and switching technologies, including Layer 2/Layer 3, VLANs, and connectivity solutions.
• Create engineering documentation and job packages—diagrams, BOMs, and step-by-step deployment instructions.
• Serve as an escalation point for complex routing/switching issues and guide technicians through site installations.
• Work closely with architects and cross-functional IT teams to translate strategy into production deployment.
• Maintain accurate network records and support new builds, upgrades, and modernization projects across the enterprise.

• True enterprise engineering experience — not a technician background; they’ve designed, implemented, and supported Cisco-based networks at scale.
• Hands-on Cisco depth across routing, switching, and campus/data center environments, with familiarity in ACI, ISE, MPLS, or similar fabrics.
