What You’ll Do:
This position is responsible for the setup and operation of 5-Axis CNC Mills in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications.
- Set up and operate 5-Axis CNC machines to machine flat, contoured, and formed parts
- Machine to tight tolerances (as tight as ±.005”)
- Act as a technical resource regarding tooling and machining capabilities
- Evaluate and justify new tooling and machining processes
- Load programs, set tools, fixtures, and establish tool offsets
- Mentor and train Machinist I, II, and III team members
- Take the lead on large projects from start to completion
- Interact with engineers on part design and manufacturability
- Communicate issues related to work orders, programming errors, and material discrepancies
- Maintain focus on reducing material waste, labor inefficiencies, and scrap
- Perform minor preventative maintenance as required
- Document redlines and advise on corrective actions
- Perform R&D machining work as directed
- Accurately record labor time for job tracking
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Promote and demonstrate safety in accordance with company policy

- High School diploma or equivalent (AA in Machine Technology preferred)
- Strong math skills including trigonometry
- Demonstrated ability to perform lead-person responsibilities professionally and effectively
- Experience machining various plastics (WPP, NPP, FRPP, Polycarbonate, PVC, Acrylic, UHMW, Delrin, PTFE, PFA, PVDF) and other materials including metals
- Ability to machine to ±.005 tolerance
- Experience using rotary tables, divider heads, and mill vises
- Demonstrated tooling design capabilities
- Strong troubleshooting skills in machining and setup
- Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings (metric, decimal, and fractional inch) and Bills of Materials
- Experience setting up manual machines using appropriate tooling and fixtures
- Ability to operate manual mills and lathes
- Experience setting up CNC machines including loading programs, tooling, fixtures, and offsets
- Ability to read and understand machine codes
- Skilled in using precision measuring devices in thousandths (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.)
- Ability to identify cutting tools and materials
- Ability to deburr parts to specification
- Cross-trained in at least one additional machining discipline
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and maintain full-time attendance
- 2-3 years of 5-Axis machining experience
- CNC programming experience
- Experience in high-tolerance, low-volume manufacturing environments
