Opt Out Learning Center was founded by a local teacher who wanted a chance to shape a unique learning environment to meet modern student needs and get students learning both in and out of the classroom. We are building a small, connected group of learners year to year and working together to redistribute the labor of teaching across a team to reduce burnout and better serve our students.
Position Overview
As a Core Studies Co-Teacher you will contribute to our learning environment by shaping for grades K-3 at Opt Out Learning Center. Other educators are responsible for Music, Language Instruction, Teaching for Artistic Behavior and Outdoor Programming. The team works together to provide Project Based Learning for Science and Social Studies. We are seeking an experienced classroom teacher with a deep understanding of grade-by-grade standards, a passion for small group teaching and the ability to implement individualized learning plans to ensure each student's academic success. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an alternative environment that values balance, growth, and community.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement hands-on math activities aligned with Common Core standards and Montessori practices.
- Create individualized learning paths to meet the diverse needs of students (~20 enrolled K-3) utilizing online platform & resources.
- Implement effective differentiation & documentation strategies to support student learning - effectively communicate these needs to the teaching team.
- Collaborate to provide consistent messaging and coaching for students.
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
- Collaborate to create meaningful out of class learning experiences.
- Lead a portion of trimester conferences for staff & parents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education *
- Willingness to train to implement new methods and curriculum.
- Experience teaching full time in elementary education.*
- Strong knowledge of Common Core standards for elementary grades.
- Experience with individualized learning plans and differentiation strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - reference to support.*
- Clean driving record / Insurable to drive school vehicles.*
