OpSite has been retained to recruit and deploy a technical resource supporting a major midstream energy operator under a structured temp-to-hire engagement.
Position Summary
OpSite Energy is seeking a Senior SCADA / OT Engineer (Ignition) to support a major natural gas pipeline and midstream operation based in Houston, Texas. This position is a temp to hire with the client company looking at placement in 6 months or less.
This position is ideal for a high-end Ignition developer / architect with strong operational technology (OT) experience and proven capability building, supporting, and optimizing SCADA environments within oil & gas operations.
The selected candidate will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for development, integration, enhancement, and support of operational technology systems including:
- Ignition SCADA
- PLC / PAC integrations
- Operational databases
- Pipeline and facility visualization systems
- OT data models and protocols
- Automation and process optimization initiatives
This role is heavily focused on Ignition development and industrial software engineering, combined with practical understanding of oil & gas operations.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA & OT Engineering
- Design, develop, configure, and maintain Ignition SCADA applications and architecture
- Build and support OT systems supporting pipeline and natural gas operations
- Integrate PLC, RTU, PAC, and field instrumentation into enterprise SCADA environments
- Support process visualization, alarming, historian, and operational dashboards
- Develop operational workflows and automation enhancements
Ignition Development
- Develop advanced Ignition applications using:
- Perspective
- Vision
- Gateway scripting
- Tag architecture
- Named queries
- Historian integration
- Develop solutions using:
- Python scripting within Ignition
- SQL databases and stored procedures
- Java-based functionality where required
- Support OT protocol mapping and integration into Ignition environments
Process Improvement & Optimization
- Evaluate operational limitations and implement improvements to increase efficiency and system performance
- Review emerging OT technologies and recommend enhancements
- Troubleshoot SCADA performance issues and optimize system reliability
Cross Functional Support
- Collaborate with:
- Operations teams
- Maintenance groups
- SCADA personnel
- Automation engineers
- OT / IT stakeholders
- Support operational technology projects from planning through deployment
Compliance & Operational Excellence
- Maintain compliance with industry standards, cybersecurity practices, and operational procedures
- Support safe and reliable operation of critical infrastructure systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- OR equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in:
- SCADA
- Operational Technology
- Industrial Automation
- Oil & Gas Environment
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Ignition SCADA development
- PLC / PAC integration
- SQL databases
- Python scripting
- Industrial protocols and OT architecture
- Strong understanding of:
- Midstream / pipeline operations
- Natural gas operations
- SCADA data structures
- OT environments

Compensation & Benefits
This position is employed through OpSite Energy under a temp-to-hire engagement structure.
Compensation Package Includes:
- Base Salary: Up to $120-150,000
