Opportunity Living is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and organized Direct Support Supervisor to provide leadership and support within our residential services. This position supervises Direct Support Professionals, coordinates the daily operations of assigned homes, and helps ensure that each person we serve receives safe, respectful, and individualized support.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys developing employees, solving problems, and helping individuals with disabilities live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
What You’ll Do
- Provide supervision, direction, coaching, and ongoing support to employees assigned to residential settings.
- Coordinate staffing, schedules, household resources, and daily operations within assigned homes.
- Maintain adequate staffing coverage while monitoring overtime.
- Train employees on client needs, individual programs, policies, procedures, documentation requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure individual programs and recommendations from the Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) and Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) are consistently implemented.
- Complete weekly home inspections, active-treatment observations, and required mealtime observations.
- Monitor the quality of client care, documentation, household conditions, and staff performance.
- Promote client dignity, independence, choice, participation, and individual rights.
- Respond promptly and professionally to questions or concerns from clients, families, guardians, and employees.
- Facilitate residential staff meetings and quarterly client-rights meetings.
- Conduct annual employee performance evaluations and provide coaching, counseling, conflict resolution, and corrective feedback when needed.
- Assist with client appointments, outings, shopping, and other activities when necessary.
- Help monitor client accounts and ensure funds are appropriately maintained and documented.
- Participate in regulatory surveys, quality-improvement activities, and plans of correction.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Community Living, QIDPs, nursing, and other departments.
- Participate in the established on-call rotation.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPAA requirements, policies, and procedures.
Schedule Expectations
Because effective supervision requires an active presence in the homes, the Direct Support Supervisor will:
- Maintain a flexible schedule based on client and staffing needs.
- Work one early-morning shift and one evening shift every two weeks.
- Work a minimum of eight hours in a residential setting during each assigned on-call weekend.
- Provide hands-on coverage or assistance when needed.
Qualifications
- Eequivalent relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in human services, healthcare, business, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience in supervision, leadership, counseling, human resources, or providing services to individuals with disabilities.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to train employees, provide constructive feedback, and hold team members accountable.
- Basic computer and electronic-documentation skills.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Sincere respect for and desire to work with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to pass required criminal and registry background checks and tuberculosis screening.
- Ability to complete and maintain required training, including CPR/First Aid, Dependent Adult Abuse, behavior-management training, and other job-specific requirements.

Physical and Work Requirements
This position works in a changing, sometimes fast-paced residential environment and must be able to adjust to changing client and staffing needs. Depending on the needs of the individuals served, responsibilities may include assisting with mobility, transfers, personal care, behavioral support, CPR/First Aid, and other interventions.
