The Impact: What You'll Be Doing
You won't just be crunching numbers; you'll be ensuring every dollar is managed accurately to keep our essential programs running—from our Shelter Operations to our Workforce Development initiatives.
I. Accounting & Financial Integrity
- Own the Ledger: Maintain the general ledger with sharp accuracy, posting all journal entries and financial transactions to ensure the integrity of our financial data.
- Reconciliation Master: Perform precise monthly bank and account reconciliations and prepare necessary schedules for month-end and year-end closing.
- Audit Preparation: Assist the Director of Finance with the annual audit, acting as a key resource for providing documentation and maintaining fixed asset schedules.
II. Grants Management & Compliance
- Secure the Funding Pipeline: Manage the full cycle of grant billing and drawdowns, ensuring every submission is timely and compliant with funder requirements.
- Budget Oversight: Track grant budgets versus actual expenditures, serving as the primary point person for preparing required financial reports for private, local, and federal funders.
- Cross Departmental Partner: Collaborate closely with our program staff to ensure they fully understand grant budget restrictions, helping them responsibly manage expenditures that align with the mission.
Who We're Looking For
We need an empathetic professional with strong technical skillset and a passion for non-profit operations.
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years specifically focused on grant administration, ideally in a non-profit environment.
- Proven experience with general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and preparing for external audits.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Intacct) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
