POSITION PURPOSE:
The Physician Champion provides direct care services to the primary care patients at the Family Medical Centers. Position will participate in QI activities as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attendance during the normal work hours is an essential function of the job to ensure work goals are met and customers are served.
- Provides direct outpatient primary care to patients.
- Provide after-hours phone consultation for established clinic patients as directed.
- Prescribes medication utilizing clinic formulary for outpatients as feasible.
- Act as the liaison with medical care resources when referral is needed and the Chief Medical Officer is not available.
- Requisitions on and off-site lab and x-ray exams as needed.
- Assumes specified duties in the absence of the medical director.
- Provides professional direction and supervision to employees directly responsible to physician.
- Participate in continuing education activities off-site when appropriate and feasible.
- Participate in staff conferences to devise individual patient care plans, to revise and update clinic services, continuing quality improvement program and continuing education as appropriate.
- When there are no patients to be attended to, participates in patient related activities.
- Participates in other related activities affecting the clinic program (e.g., grant application requirements, committees, recruitment and orientation).
- Directing, coordinating, consulting with, and referring patients to nurses, specialists, and other medical staff.
- Maintains appropriate medical certification as required by the NC Medical Board.
- Agrees to participate in and comply with the provisions of any managed care and other third-party payor contracts entered into by the company.
- Agrees to complete all documents related to billing and patient records in a timely manner as required by company.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Graduate of an accredited school of medicine and completion of residency training. Current medical license to practice in North Carolina. Must be board-certified or board-eligible in one of the following specialties: Family practice, internal medicine, or pediatrics.
Urgent Care, Radiology, Physical Therapy.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Analyze and critique judgment professional level providers; Manage clinic flow of patients and establish time management principles; Perform outpatient procedures; Work with volunteer Emergency Rescue squads; Articulate instructions to low-income patients; Multi-tasked; Good written and verbal communication skills; Critical Thinking; Problem Solving
