As a Criminal Investigator with the US Office of Personnel Management, Office of the Inspector General, Office of Investigations, you will assist with criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving fraud, waste, abuse, and illegal activity affecting OPM programs and operations.
Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GL9 level.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have one of the following:- One year of specialized experience at the GL-7 (or equivalent) level planning and conducting investigations of allegations of suspected violations of fraud, criminal statues; interviewing witnesses and preparing written reports.
- A master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D.
- An equivalent combination of education and specialized experience.

Responsibilities:
- Assists in planning and conducting criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving suspected fraud, waste, abuse, and illegal activity affecting OPM programs.
- Reviews allegations, records, claims, financial information, and other case data to identify fraud indicators, investigative leads, and evidence.
- Assists with interviews of witnesses, subject-matter experts, program officials, and other sources to obtain information and verify facts.
- Coordinates routine investigative steps with supervisors, senior agents, law enforcement partners, program offices, and Federal Employees Health Benefits carriers.
- Prepares investigative plans, case updates, written reports, interview summaries, and documentation of investigative actions for review.
- Participates in law enforcement activities, including surveillance, warrant operations, evidence collection, arrests, searches, and required training.
- Enters and maintains case information to support investigative timeliness, reporting requirements, and compliance with investigative standards.
