Title: Senior CAD Mechanical Engineer
Contract: 6 Months, Contract-to-Hire. C2H.
Location: Peachtree City, GA 30269 (Hybrid: 3x/week onsite)
Industry: Automotive.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior CAD Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team and support the design and development of complex mechanical components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in 3D CAD design, Siemens NX, sheet metal design, and die-cast component design, with the ability to take designs from concept through detailed engineering and production. Experience in the automotive industry is strongly preferred, particularly candidates who have worked on vehicle components, assemblies, structures, brackets, housings, enclosures, or other high-volume manufactured components. This is a hands-on engineering position requiring strong CAD skills, mechanical design fundamentals, manufacturing knowledge, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain detailed 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using Siemens NX.
- Develop mechanical components and assemblies from initial concepts through detailed design, validation, and production release.
- Design and engineer sheet metal components, including brackets, housings, covers, panels, supports, and structural components.
- Design and develop die-cast components, taking into consideration manufacturability, tooling, draft angles, wall thickness, ribs, bosses, fillets, and material requirements.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to ensure designs are cost-effective and production ready.
- Develop detailed 2D engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, material specifications, surface finishes, and manufacturing notes.
- Apply appropriate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to mechanical components and assemblies.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups and dimensional analysis to ensure proper fit, form, and function.
- Review and validate designs for mechanical integrity, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations to improve product performance and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, tooling engineers, suppliers, quality teams, and other engineering disciplines.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve design and production issues.
- Analyze and resolve mechanical design issues identified during prototype builds, testing, manufacturing, and production.
- Support engineering changes, design modifications, ECO/ECN processes, and production releases.
- Maintain accurate CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation.
- Ensure CAD designs comply with company engineering standards, design guidelines, and applicable industry requirements.
- Conduct design feasibility assessments and provide estimates for engineering changes and new designs.
- Support prototype builds and production launches by resolving CAD and mechanical design issues.
- Review existing designs and identify opportunities for cost reduction, weight reduction, simplification, and improved manufacturability.
- Maintain configuration control and ensure revisions are properly documented and released.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical/CAD engineers when required.
Required Technical Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience with Siemens NX.
- Advanced 3D part and assembly modeling capabilities.
- Experience managing complex CAD models and design revisions.
- Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings from 3D CAD models.
- Strong practical experience designing sheet metal components.
- Understanding of Bend radii, K-factor, Sheet metal DFMA.
- Knowledge of die-cast DFMA principles, Aluminium and/or zinc die-cast components.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and DFMA.
- Automotive industry experience is strongly preferred.
