What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Support Specialist I position at OPEN DOORS INC?
Summary
The Shelter Support Specialist I will join our team and work closely with shelter guests and leadership to ensure smooth operations of the area’s only low-barrier emergency shelter. Open Doors is dedicated to providing safe shelter for the unhoused, as well as compassionate support and access to services for all in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community.
Duties
- Responsible for ensuring seamless intake and shelter check-in.
- Responsible for ensuring organizational policies are upheld in an equitable manner.
- Ensure a safe, secure and inclusive shelter environment for all guests, volunteers, etc.
- Provide resource navigation to guests and ensure appropriate internal referrals.
- Assist guests with basic services, such as application assistance (i.e., vital documents).
- Facilitate friendly interactions and guests services with internal and external parties.
Qualifications
- Experience working with vulnerable populations.
- Comfortable working with software and technology.
- High school diploma or equivalent required, associates desirable.
Potential Hazards
Potential contact with blood and body fluids. Minimal hazards if appropriate precautions are taken and documented procedures followed. Training will be provided.

Pay: $15.50 per hour
