What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Monitor-WARM Cold Weather Shelter position at WARM-Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry?
WARM seeks seasonal Shelter Monitors for the WARM Cold Weather Shelter to support the work of its winter emergency shelter to fulfill duties November/December 2026 to April 2027. This is a seasonal, entry-level, and part-time position within an emergent, faith-based, and community-centered organization. Evening and Overnight Shifts available. There will be some daylight shifts available during some shelter weeks. Hours range from 12-40 approx. hours per week depending on the selected schedule. Shelter Monitors are paid $14/hour,
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: Performs shelter support work in monitoring the nighttime operations of the WARM Cold Weather Shelter (CWS). Work is performed under the supervision of the Shelter Manager and requires a high level of commitment.
DUTIES:
- Interfaces with program participants at the rotating churches/shelter sites;
- Supervises participants to ensure compliance with program schedule, policies, and rules;
- Acts as a source of encouragement for participants when needed;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND BELIEFS:
- Knowledge of area community resources;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to use a computer and organize information; and
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred;
- Applicable experience or interest in providing community services and working with issues related to homelessness;
- Reliable transportation required (valid Virginia Driver’s License preferred);
- Must pass a criminal history and sex offender registry check upon hiring.
- Must complete onsite/online training, and drug testing upon hiring;
- May be requested to complete CPR & First;
