Medical Assistant
Department/Location: Urgent Care - 1651 E. 29th St., Muncie
Reports To: Urgent Care Clinical Coordinator and Practice Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt | Full Time
Requires: Medical assistant certification or at least one year work experience in healthcare
Schedule: 2 - 12 hour shifts and 2 - 8 hour shifts, holidays and weekends are required

Overview
As an Open Door Medical Assistant, you will be part of a supportive, interdisciplinary team providing high-quality, compassionate care to individuals and families. Medical assistants perform a variety of patient care activities to support and assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff. No clinical experience is necessary if you are certified by an accredited medical assistant program.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Open Door Health Services provides comprehensive primary, urgent, preventive, and select specialty services and social support programs for individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. Our patients represent diverse backgrounds, life experiences, capacities, and orientations.

Roles & Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Prepare the patient for the provider by getting vital signs and the patient’s primary complaint. You may also conduct additional testing and screenings (ex. UA dipstick, glucose reading, pregnancy testing, vision and hearing)
- Brief provider on patient’s data and status
- Administer prescribed medications, immunizations and treatments as ordered
- Assist in screening telephone calls for referrals, lab results and prescription refills
- Perform quality checks and sterilize, clean, and stock exam rooms
- Demonstrate a commitment to ethical, inclusive, and patient-centered care

- Be able to react calmly in emergency situations
- Be able to read, understand, and follow detailed written and oral communication
- Be able to learn to use and update electronic health records and other online systems
- High school diploma or GED equivalent. MA certification preferred
- At least one year of work experience in healthcare clinic/office if not certified
- CPR & first aid certification
