What are the responsibilities and job description for the Packaging Buyer position at OPAL FOODS COOPERATIVE INC?
Opal Foods is adding to the team with a great opportunity for a Packaging Buyer. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Packaging Buyer will track, manage and order all packaging materials for the locations assigned to them.
Essential Job Functions – Must be able to perform these tasks with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Monitor ordering and storage of inventory for assigned plants
- Work with receiving department managers to ensure necessary items are in stock
- Assist/schedule delivery appointments for incoming packaging loads for plants assigned
- Maintain packaging calendars for plants assigned
- Constantly working to reduce warehousing costs
- Work with Sales and Customer Service to accurately forecast future packaging needs
- Maintain and implement comprehensive policies and procedures for inventory control to manage the flow of supplies and merchandise
- Serve as backup for Procurement Manager

Qualifications – Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task
- Effective team skills
- Effective communication skills towards all levels of the organization
- Professional and courteous approach to interacting with customers and internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make effective decisions based on data provided
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Must be proficient in use of Excel spreadsheets
- Demonstrated ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English
Preferred Qualifications – Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Previous experience in the commercial egg industry preferred
- Previous experience in purchasing or procurement related roles preferred
