Summary
The Patient Services Representative performs scheduling and registration, verifies eligibility and obtains authorizations for ambulatory appointments, procedures, or surgery scheduling in support of the patients' care needs. He/She is responsible for completing the patient registration in a timely and accurate manner to minimize interruption to patients' care.
Responsibilities
Secures all demographic and financial information, including Medicare/Medicaid, Third Party Liability (TPL), and Workers Compensation; verifies and/or notifies insurance company; completes cash deposits (co-pays, deductibles, self-pay); explains and answers registration questions on demand.
Obtains and verifies required precertification/authorizations, when appropriate, for any scheduled outpatient procedure or surgery.
Schedules procedure or surgery as patients' plan of care dictates. Communicates closely with patient throughout care delivery process regarding (but not limited to) insurance, co-pays, deductibles, authorizations, procedure or surgery date, appointments, etc.
Transcribes orders
Performs a variety of administrative duties including answering phones; faxing and filing of confidential documents; and basic Internet and email utilization
Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers. Works closely with the back office/medical assistant team and provider(s) to maximize the patients' care experience.
