Role Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the Company's day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting.
This position serves as the operational leader of the accounting function and is responsible for managing the monthly close process, supervising accounting staff, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting cash management, and partnering with the Finance Director on financial reporting, forecasting, compliance, and process improvements.
The Accounting Manager is expected to develop into the Company's Controller as the organization continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting:
- Own the integrity of the general ledger.
- Review transaction coding and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and review journal entries.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate accounting records.
- Ensure GAAP compliance.
Month-End Close:
- Coordinate and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
- Maintain close calendar and reporting deadlines.
- Review reconciliations and investigate unusual variances.
- Prepare monthly financial statements.
- Support financial reporting packages for executive leadership.
Accounts Receivable:
- Oversee invoicing accuracy.
- Monitor customer collections and aging.
- Review AR reserves and collection issues.
- Partner with Operations and Sales on billing accuracy, including annual increases.
- Improve working capital through timely collections.
Accounts Payable:
- Supervise Accounts Payable operations.
- Review vendor setup and payment controls.
- Ensure timely vendor payments.
- Monitor AP aging.
- Maintain appropriate approval workflows.
Treasury & Cash Management:
- Manage daily cash operations.
- Monitor bank balances and liquidity.
- Coordinate payment timing with the Finance Director.
- Support short-term cash forecasting.
- Assist with weekly cash reporting.
Payroll & HR Support:
- Oversee payroll processing.
- Review payroll reconciliations.
- Support onboarding and offboarding activities.
- Maintain payroll records.
- Coordinate benefit-related accounting entries.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Ensure segregation of duties.
- Support annual audit activities.
- Coordinate tax and insurance documentation.
- Maintain audit-ready accounting records.
Insurance Administration:
- Coordinate annual insurance renewals.
- Support workers' compensation, general liability, auto, and umbrella renewals.
- Prepare payroll and exposure reports.
- Respond to carrier information requests.
Process Improvement:
- Identify accounting process improvements.
- Improve ERP utilization.
- Increase automation where practical.
- Partner with Operations to improve financial processes.
Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
- Delegate work effectively.
- Review work for accuracy and completeness.
- Establish departmental priorities.
- Develop future accounting talent.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong GAAP knowledge
- Experience managing month-end close
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred:
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Public accounting experience
- Multi-entity accounting
- ERP experience (QBO preferred)
