Performs difficult skilled administrative support work processing of a variety of permit applications, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Permitting Supervisor.

  • Answers telephone and routes calls; prepares, schedules and logs inspections requests; answers questions and takes complaints from homeowners and contractors.
  • Receives and processes building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and other permit applications; reviews applications and permits for accuracy; reviews blueprints, plans, GIS maps and other technical documents related to applications; notifies appropriate parties regarding discrepancies.
  • Receives and processes CAMA, floodplain, planning and zoning requests for information.
  • Prepares and updates various reports, logs, records and books.
  • Computes appropriate fees; receives and processes permit payments; makes deposits; processes daily money reports.
  • Maintains filing system for permits and related documents.
  • Conducts transactions with the public in matters requiring knowledge of rules, procedures, policies, precedents and activities.
  • Operates office equipment; performs clerical, typing and filing tasks; maintains adequate inventory of office supplies.
  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Some knowledge of permit processing; general knowledge of standard office methods and procedures, business English, spelling and commercial arithmetic and office management; general knowledge of departmental programs, policies and procedures; ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record work; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Ability to operate a personal computer. Knowledge of office productivity software.

Physical Requirements:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather); work is generally in a very quiet location (e.g. park trail, storage or file room).High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in general clerical work and involving contact with the public or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:
Valid Driver's License

Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Salary : $44,059 - $57,277
