You'll work closely with property operations teams on budgeting and variance analysis, and play a key role in strengthening internal controls across property accounting processes.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company reporting requirements.
- Perform bank reconciliations, cash balancing, and balance sheet account reconciliations; investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly.
- Review rent rolls, receivables, security deposits, move-ins/move-outs, and other tenant accounting activity for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify and initiate process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, strengthen internal controls, improve accuracy, and streamline accounting workflows through standardization and automation.
- Partner with property managers and operations teams to analyze operating results, explain budget-to-actual variances, and identify follow-up actions.
- Support annual budgets, reforecasts, and portfolio-level financial planning by preparing schedules, entering budgets in the accounting system, and validating assumptions.
- Review and process invoices, ensure proper coding, and monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable activity tied to assigned properties.
- Mentor junior accounting staff or provide guidance on close tasks, reconciliations, and property-accounting best practices when applicable.
- Perform additional accounting and reporting duties as assigned to support the finance organization.
- 2 - 4 years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with Yardi Voyager or comparable property-management/accounting systems; advanced Excel skills required.
- CPA designation, CPA candidacy, or equivalent advanced accounting training would be an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple properties or entities simultaneously while meeting recurring reporting deadlines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
