What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician position at OneWorld Community Health Centers?
One part-time (0.50 FTE) position | Monday - Friday 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm | Livestock Exchange Campus (30th & L) Job Duties The Laboratory Technician works to provide timely and accurate onsite laboratory services; they collect specimens from patients, perform in-house testing, prepare specimens for outside testing, and record lab results. The Lab Tech is also responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, records, and procedures in accordance with OSHA, CLIA, OneWorld Community Health Center’s Performance Improvement Plans (PIP), and other applicable standards.
- Correctly identifies the patient per written protocol and collects appropriate specimens. Labels specimens accurately and completely, while maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed. Performs all in-house testing, prepares specimens/records for outside lab procedures, and records lab results in an accurate and timely manner.
- Performs quality control procedures and maintains proper documentation on all laboratories' waived tests in accordance with OSHA, CLIA, and PIP guidelines as well as other applicable standards.
- Monitors and assures compliance with Infection Control.
- Collaborates with patients and the clinic healthcare team regarding test availability, collection of specimens, and cost-effectiveness of tests.
- Provides excellent customer service to patients as well as internal clients.
- Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patients with needed information.
- Maintains adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and ensures that all supplies are within time limits before use in patient testing.
