What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer Intern (Remote, Unpaid) - Work with the Founder position at ONETOUCH PROCESSING LLC?
OneTouch Processing is a licensed third-party mortgage processing company, and we are building the technology that will run the future of our operations. Mortgage lending is a trillion-dollar industry that still runs on manual work, phone calls, and copy-paste. We are changing that from the inside. Our in-house AI platform, Soma, automates the day-to-day work of our processing team: a borrower chat assistant, a loan officer app, the Soma X Chrome extension that fills in the leading loan origination systems used by mortgage brokers, and a partner embed widget. Behind it is a founder who has already built and sold his own mortgage technology and runs this processing company today.
We are assembling our founding engineering team. We are not looking for people to pass through. We are looking for the engineers who start with us on day one and grow with the company as it grows. Our intent is to build this team once and build it right: people who take ownership of a part of the stack now, become the leaders of that area over time, and help take our technology to the top of the industry.
This is an unpaid, part-time, remote engineering internship for current college students and recent college graduates who want to learn to build real software at the forefront of AI and fintech. You do not need any mortgage or finance background. You need coding skill, curiosity, and the drive to own something. We will teach you the industry.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are filling every piece of the puzzle. Pick the lane where you want to lead:
We are looking for people who can take the lead and own their side of the project. Each lane has a leader, and that leader is responsible for it. You will not be on your own: our partner companies and industry contacts will help train and guide you on best practices, tooling, and standards. It is then your job to make sure those practices are implemented 100 percent, top tier, inside our system. You own the result.
- Front End: React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind. Build the borrower chat and loan officer app experiences.
- Back End: Supabase, Postgres, data modeling, row-level security, Deno edge functions, API design.
- AI and LLM: Prompt design, structured output, evaluation, and agent workflows that automate processing tasks.
- Security: Auth, data privacy, access control, and secure handling of sensitive financial data in a regulated industry.
- QA and Testing: Playwright end-to-end tests, unit tests, CI, and release quality.
- Chrome Extension: The Soma X extension that connects our AI to the systems brokers and processors already use every day.
What You'll Do:
- Own one lane of the stack and build features in a sandbox version of the Soma codebase (synthetic data only)
- Work directly with the founder in weekly 1:1 code reviews and a weekly team session
- Work in a real team repo with GitHub pull requests, code review, CI, and automated tests
- Use AI coding assistants the right way: plan the work, review every line, own the result
- Build a capstone project in your lane and demo it to the team at the end of your term
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program, or graduated from a college or university within the last 24 months
- At least one project built with JavaScript or TypeScript (school or personal)
- Basic familiarity with React, or willingness to ramp up quickly in the first weeks
- A GitHub profile or portfolio link that shows your code
- Available at least 10 hours per week for at least 3 months
- Clear communication in writing and on short video calls
- Authorized to work in the U.S. and based in the U.S.
- No mortgage or finance experience required
Nice to Have:
- TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Vite, or Next.js
- Supabase, Postgres, or SQL
- Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or Vitest
- Application security, auth, or data privacy experience
- Chrome extension development
- Experience using AI coding assistants or building with LLM APIs
- Interest in fintech, mortgage, or real estate
Schedule and Terms:
- Part-time and flexible: 10 to 20 hours per week, scheduled around your classes
- One weekly team session (about 1 hour) plus a weekly 1:1 code review with the founder
- Term of 3 to 6 months. At month 3 we both check in and decide whether to continue to month 6
- Unpaid. This internship does not come with a guaranteed paid job afterward
- School credit is welcome. We will complete your school's internship forms, learning agreements, and evaluations
- You will work in a sandbox environment with synthetic data, with no access to production systems or real customer data
- Before starting, you will sign a confidentiality (NDA) and IP assignment agreement
Why OneTouch Processing:
- Join the founding engineering team at a real operating company that is automating its own industry with AI
- Real ownership of a lane of the stack from day one, not busywork
- Learn on a real codebase shaped by live, day-to-day loan file work
- Modern stack: React, TypeScript, Supabase, Vercel, Playwright, and LLM integrations
- A finished capstone project and a written reference for strong performers
- Our intent is to grow this team with the company. Standout interns may be considered for founding engineer roles after the internship ends. This would be a separate hiring decision, and the internship carries no guarantee or promise of a paid job, a title, or any future offer
U.S.-based applicants only. Current college students and recent grads from anywhere in the U.S. are welcome.
Company Description:
OneTouch Processing is a licensed third-party mortgage processing company serving brokers and loan officers across the country. Our team averages a [X]-day clear to close. We are now building our own AI technology, Soma, to automate our operations: a borrower chat assistant, a loan officer app, and the Soma X Chrome extension that fills in the leading loan origination systems used by mortgage brokers.
Our founder has done this before. He started his career at United Wholesale Mortgage, then opened his own mortgage brokerage at 22. He built its loan origination and point-of-sale technology himself, and as a Rocket partner his brokerage ranked among the top 1% fastest closers in America. He sold the brokerage to the largest privately owned seller of newly built homes in America, and sold the technology separately to another company that still uses it today. OneTouch Processing is the next step: bringing AI to the front of the loan processing side of the industry. Our technology is shaped by real, day-to-day loan file work, not theory. Our goal is simple: take repetitive work off mortgage teams so they can focus on their borrowers...
