Job purpose
The Billing Supervisor manages all functions of the organization’s billing to maximize cash flow while maintaining and improving internal and external customer relations. In conjunction with agency staff, this position will contribute to the day-to-day operations on all issues related to the billing department’s function, provide analysis, create written processes, and train others in implementing a cross functional billing team.
Areas of Accountability / Main Activities/ Expected Results:
Area No. 1: Team Management
Main Activities:
  • Accomplishes departmental staffing objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Guides employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating billing policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
Area No. 2: Operations Management
Main Activities:
  • Meets billing operational standards by contributing billing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying billing system improvements.
  • Approves and implements streamlining opportunities and process improvements.
  • Accomplishes billing departmental objectives by measuring billing results against programs; evaluating and improving methods; making required changes.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Area No. 3: Cross-Functional Collaboration
Main Activities:
  • Tracks and reports operations billing department performance against objectives and goals (i.e. quality, call volume, customer satisfaction, etc.).
  • Communicates with clients, vendors, and other departments to ensure quality service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain interdepartmental relationships to ensure alignment on all business initiatives.
Education / Certification(s) / Experience / Skills(s)
  • Associate degree preferred, but not required.
  • Leadership experience required.
  • Experience in healthcare or related customer service industry preferred.
  • 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of Customer Service education and experience required.
  • Microsoft Office Suite high proficiency required.
  • Tech savvy and able to learn and troubleshoot new software systems quickly required.
  • Experience with system conversions preferred.
  • Ability to establish smooth working relationships, resolve interpersonal conflicts, correct misunderstandings or errors and apply basic staff etiquette in dealing with others and customers.
  • Organized and able to prioritize work.
  • Ability to explain complex information effectively to members by phone and in writing
  • Ability to learn new procedures and adapt to change quickly.
