Oneonta Job Corps Academy is inviting both entry-level and experienced Security professionals to join our Security team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are interested in starting a career in Security or law enforcement, and for experienced professionals looking to expand their security experience. We offer our Security Officers a chance to obtain their NYS Security Guard Certification and offer training support for those working toward their CDL.

Students get the experience they need to begin a career or apprenticeship, or advance to higher education. Our vocational trades include Drone Pilot, Overhead Line Electrical, SMART Meter, Auto Body and Tech, Cement Mason, Tile Setting and Medical Trades.
Full-time Security Officers are eligible for benefits, including Medical, Vision, & Dental Insurance, 401k, paid sick time, paid vacation time, 12 paid holidays, and more. This position also offers a four-day work week, overnight and afternoon shifts, and the opportunity for over-time.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ability to monitor cameras and doors.
- Ensures effective supervision of student population
- Conducts dorm inspections and searches
- Patrols the entire campus and remain alert for disturbances, safety hazards, suspicious acts and/or persons, and other unusual conditions.
- Enforces rules and regulations.
- Performs building security and safety checks.
- Responsible for Center security, visitor control and student accountability.
- Assists staff in interventions.
- Receives complaints and makes appropriate preliminary investigations.
- Ensures the physical security of buildings and property.
Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures
- Basic knowledge of riot, crowd control procedures and proven ability to appropriately intervene in physical altercations
- Excellent interpersonal, mediation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six months experience in a security or work-related capacity preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
