Overview
The Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, safety, and development of the swim team.
This role sets the tone for the season by creating a positive, inclusive, and organized environment for
swimmers, families, and assistant/junior coaches.
The summer season runs from the Tuesday after Memorial Day thru the end of July.
Responsibilities
On-Deck Coaching
- Plan and lead approximately 10 hours/week of practices for swimmers of varying ages and
abilities
- Ensure safe practices aligned with ODSL and pool guidelines
- Foster skill development, sportsmanship, and team spirit
Meet Leadership
- Attend and lead the team at up to 8 swim meets, plus 2 end of season meets
- Coordinate swimmer lineups and relay assignments
- Support swimmers during meets and communicate expectations clearly
Team Leadership & Organization
- Supervise and support assistant/junior coaches
- Coordinate with team reps and league officials as needed
- Communicate clearly with parents regarding practices, meets, and expectations
- Serve as the primary on-deck leader and point of accountability for the season
- Pool set-up and clean up for home meets and practices
Administrative (Light)
- Assist and approve with meet entries
- Manage assistant/junior coach schedules
- Assist with basic season planning
- Participate in pre-season planning and end-of-season wrap-up as needed
- Determine award winners
- Create paper plates for all team members
Qualifications
- Prior swim coaching or competitive swimming experience preferred
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work with children across age groups
- Required certifications (or willingness to obtain before season):
- Lifeguard certification
- CPR/First Aid
- Background check per league requirements
Approximate Hours:
May 26 - June 15:
- Monday- Thursday 5:30pm-7:30pm
- Saturday June 6: time trials 7am-10am
June 16 - July 17:
- Monday: 7:45am-10:15am
- Tuesday: 7:45am-10:15am, 6pm-7:30pm
- Wednesday: meets 4:45pm -9pm
- Thursday: : 7:45am-10:15am
- Saturday: meets 7am-11am
July 18 - July 25:
- Monday: 7:45am-9:15am
- Tuesday: 7:45am-9:15am
- Wednesday: 7:45am-9:15am
- Thursday: : 7:45am-9:15am
- Saturday: meets 7am-2pm
No meets July 4 or July 8
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
