A typical day as an Ultrasound Tech:
- Full Time: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (no weekends, no holidays)
- Operate ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of various areas of the body.
- Interpret and analyze diagnostic images to provide preliminary findings for physicians.
- Maintain patient records, reports, and other administrative tasks.
- Monitor screen during scan to ensure that the image produced is satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Adjust equipment controls as per the physician’s order to capture a clear image.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment and sterilize the room in which the procedure takes place.
- Determine whether scope of exam should be extended, based on findings.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
The Must Haves:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Sonography preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required
- Professional certification in American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is required.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) required.
- AAS in Radiologic Technology required.
- Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment
- Understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology
- Ability to interpret ultrasound images.
- Familiarity with patient management systems
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to perform minor maintenance on ultrasound equipment.
