Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for procedures and diagnoses
- Prepare and submit accurate claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to insurance companies, government programs, and patients
- Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through effective medical collection strategies
- Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits prior to service delivery
- Maintain comprehensive medical records ensuring all coding aligns with current standards and regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation for accurate coding and billing
- Stay updated on changes in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and payer policies to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement processes
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related healthcare administrative role
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and record keeping
- Understanding of medical billing procedures, insurance claims processing, and collections practices
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex medical data accurately
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurers, and patients
