The Division of Gastroenterology within the Department of Medicine at One Brooklyn Health (OBH) is seeking a Clinical Director for the GI service line. The Division of Gastroenterology within the Department of Medicine at One Brooklyn Health (OBH) is seeking a Clinical Director for the GI service line. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for the provision, coordination and assurance of high-quality GI services including comprehensive nursing care using nursing process and appropriate standards of care for the OBH patient population.
Responsibilities
- Plans and organizes care to meet patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization as per OBH protocols
- Assess the health of patients through conduction of health history reviews and physical examinations
- Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examination, prescribes, and alters medication regimens, interprets findings, and alters plan of care according to practice agreement and protocols
- Educates and counsels patients and staff in the areas of health, maintenance, disease prevention and management of illness
- Documents care visit in the EMR / patient medical record
- Works collaboratively with patients and physicians on care plan
- Performs medical chart reviews with physicians in a timely fashion as identified by the Chief of GI
- Works collaboratively with nursing and other members of the interdisciplinary teams and specialty care teams (as needed) on patient care plans and to ensure timely communications
- Works collaboratively with nursing and other members of the interdisciplinary teams and specialty care teams (as needed) on patient care plans and to ensure efficient workflow/ patient turnover time in the endoscopy unit for both outpatient and inpatient procedures
- Facilitates the continuity of care across the care continuum for patients, identifying and removing barriers to access and care and successfully navigating patients to their needed procedures and appointments
- Manages population health outreach to achieve quality goals such as colorectal cancer screening and other high priority clinical outcomes
- Participates in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies
- Participates in the development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards, patient, and family education materials
- Assists in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of research protocols and maintenance of research patients, if applicable.
- All other duties as requested.
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, required.
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, required.
- Has been instructed in New York State and Federal Laws regarding prescriptions and record keeping AND has completed a pharmacy requirement of no less than the required semester hours, required.
- Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience in GI services, required.
- Minimum one (1) year of nurse practitioner experience, required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to problem solve, critical thinking and leadership knowledge and ability to demonstrate teamwork.
- Current registration as Professional Nurse in New York State and Registration as Nurse Practitioner in New York State
- Board Certification as an Adult or Family NP, required
- BLS certification, required
- DEA certificate, required
- ALS, PALS, NALS, NRP certificates as needed by specialty
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
