Position Summary
The Business Manager leads service operations through business planning, execution of service solutions, and team leadership. This role is responsible for managing a P&L, growing service business within existing and new customer locations, and ensuring high-quality service delivery aligned with customer contracts.
This position works closely with customers, internal teams, sales, and project operations to drive customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop long-term, high-quality customer relationships by engaging with leadership teams and consistently exceeding expectations
- Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of service contracts, including preventive maintenance and contract compliance
- Partner with Account Managers to support sales pursuits and project implementation
- Operate as a working leader on customer contracts when applicable
- Manage full P&L responsibilities, including budgets, costs, team compensation, and cash flow goals
- Support collections efforts, including past-due receivables
- Lead contract reviews and negotiations to maximize retention and value
- Analyze and report financial performance (monthly, quarterly, annually) including revenue and cost variances
- Foster a positive team culture through communication, feedback, and performance management
- Conduct career development discussions and support employee growth plans
- Coach team members to improve performance, customer satisfaction, and operational results
- Effectively manage a geographically dispersed and diverse team
- Champion company safety culture and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing service solutions, customer expectations, and P&L
- Experience in industrial automation and strong knowledge of QCS/DCS systems and process control
- Understanding of maintenance practices, root cause analysis, and task scheduling
- Proven experience presenting solutions to manufacturing customers at multiple organizational levels
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including delegation, accountability, and performance management
- Strong business acumen, including budgeting, financial planning, and negotiation
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address issues proactively
- Ability to translate technical challenges into actionable business solutions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to communicate complex technical and financial information clearly
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and retain talent
Work Environment
Primarily office-based with standard working hours. Occasional extended hours may be required during peak financial reporting periods.
