Job Title: Assistant Batch Plant Operator / Insider Mixer Assistant
1st Shift Monday through Friday and some Saturdays.
8 am start time – depending on workload.
$22/hours
Summary: The Assistant Batch Operator Insider Mixer Assistant backs up the Operator, performing a variety of tasks related to mixing concrete in the computerized Voeller Concrete Mixer. The concrete must be mixed using different ingredients according to the specifications for each project. The concrete is then taken from the mixer to the pouring location in the plant and must be ready in a timely manner to meet the production schedule.
Job Responsibilities:
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE:
- Responsible for daily inspection and maintenance of shuttle conveyor, catwalk, lower belt, aggregate hoppers, and weigh vessels. Grease all the fittings associated with this equipment.
- Complete daily inspection checklist. Turn into the supervisor each morning before starting production.
- Inspect and check oil and hydraulic levels on the forklift dedicated to the mixing operation.
- Clean forklift at the end of each shift (inside and out).
PRE-POURING SCHEDULE AND DELIVERY PROCESS:
- Strip, remove, and set up all molds on side 1,2,3 for pouring out blocks daily. Oil and set up for casting. Remove all debris after stripping. Move them to the appropriate place.
- Clean out the cement chutes and butterfly valves on the mixer every morning before production. Immediately clean the mixer of any additional cement and debris from cleaning the chutes.
- Agitate the color totes by turning on the air valves for 15 minutes each morning before mixing.
- In summer months, water down the aggregates in the hoppers to cool them off before mixing. This should only be done with the approval of the QC Manager.
- Is responsible for delivering the concrete buckets by forklift to all areas promptly as scheduled by the Plant Manager.
- Buckets that need to be cleaned should be moved to the weir area immediately after the pouring procedure is complete. Buckets will be cleaned by the Outside Assistant in the weir area. AT NO TIME SHOULD THE BUCKETS BE CLEANED INSIDE THE PLANT!!
- Responsible for moving the washout hoppers to the weir area when they are full of water and stone. Always have one clean and ready to alternate.
- Maintain all buckets so they are in proper working order. Should maintenance be required, move buckets to the maintenance area immediately and follow up on repairs.
ADMIXTURES/COLOR/CEMENT:
- Agitate the color totes by turning on the air valves for 15 minutes each morning before mixing.
- Report on when levels of color are getting low and follow up to make sure production is not affected by a lack of material.
CLEANUP:
- Clean and power-wash the floor below the mixer daily before and at the end of each shift.
- Keep the area around the aggregate bins and under the conveyor belts clean and free of debris and sand/stone.
- Clean and power wash the area directly in front of and outside of the north warehouse door.
- Ensure that the pressure washer hose is rolled up and stored properly after each use.
- Ensure that all tools, such as shovels, floor squeegees, brooms, hoses, etc., are put away in the appropriate location at the end of each shift.
AGGREGATE/BINS MAINTENANCE:
- Learn and thoroughly understand how to use the aggregate and shuttle conveyor systems.
SAFETY:
- Follow all safety procedures and policies to ensure a safe work environment.
- Never put anything, including your hands or any instrument, in the mixer.
- Always use the Lock-Out / Tag-Out procedure when necessary to inspect or clean equipment.
- Report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment, tools, and materials properly.
- Hold others accountable for the safety program.

Qualifications:
- Must be able to read a tape measure
- Must understand and speak basic English, but not necessary.
- Must be able to pass a background and drug screening.
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have some experience or knowledge of construction
- Must have steel-toed boots
