Overview:
OPPA! is seeking a highly organized, people-centered Education Director to lead and grow our education programs, including children’s theatre classes, intensives, private lessons, camps, community education, and LINK Education League programs.

Position Title: Education Director

Organization: On Pitch Performing Arts (OPPA!)

Location: Layton, Utah

Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried

Salary Range: $46,000–$52,000 annually

Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 11:00 AM–7:00 PM (some evenings and weekends required)

Position SummaryThe Education Director is a senior leadership position responsible for the vision, structure, and execution of OPPA!’s education programs. This role combines logistical oversight with relationship-driven leadership and serves as the final decision-maker for education programming within approved budgets.The Education Director oversees all education initiatives, including children’s theatre classes, intensives, private lessons, camps, community education, education performances, and LINK Education League programs. This position works closely with the Executive Director and internal teams to ensure high-quality programming, strong communication, and sustainable growth.

Primary ResponsibilitiesEducation Program Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all OPPA! education programs
  • Ensure program quality, alignment with OPPA!’s mission, and consistent student experience
  • Oversee curriculum development and continuous program improvement
  • Approve and maintain education calendars and schedules

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise teaching artists, Education Admin Assistant, interns, LINK instructors, and program leads
  • Conduct staff meetings, classroom observations, and evaluations
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and professional support to education staff
  • Support in-class needs and program execution as required

Operational Ownership & Logistics

  • Maintain day-to-day awareness of programs through reports and check-ins
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and substitute coverage
  • Oversee education spaces, supplies, and department organization
  • Manage departmental expenses and budget tracking
  • Maintain internal systems, documentation, and workflows

Communication & Family Engagement

  • Serve as primary point of contact for education families and teaching staff
  • Lead parent meetings and education-focused events
  • Oversee onboarding and communication for each program cycle
  • Maintain family and teacher handbooks and resources

LINK Education League Oversight

  • Ensure alignment, staffing, documentation, and reporting for LINK programs
  • Support grant compliance and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with partners and instructors to ensure quality programming

Community Engagement & Growth

  • Represent OPPA! at community events and partnership meetings
  • Develop and maintain partnerships that support education program growth
  • Maintain a visible presence at education performances and student events

Qualifications

  • Experience in arts education, nonprofit leadership, program management, or related field
  • Strong organizational and logistical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Education level is flexible; experience and capability are prioritized

  • Gaining familiarity with all education programs, including children’s theatre classes, intensives, private lessons, camps, community education, and LINK Education League programs
  • Building initial relationships with teaching artists, program leads, and education staff
  • Understanding existing schedules, calendars, staffing models, and communication systems
  • Observing classes, rehearsals, and education events to gain insight into program flow and student experience
  • Reviewing current documentation, handbooks, communication templates, and operational processes
  • Demonstrating consistent, professional communication with staff and families

Key Win: The Education Director is informed, visible, responsive, and building trust across the department.

First 60 Days: Organize, Lead, and ImprovePrimary Focus: Establishing ownership, clarity, and operational rhythm.By the end of 60 days, success looks like:

  • Confidently leading education staff meetings and check-ins
  • Taking ownership of education calendars, staffing coverage, and operational logistics
  • Ensuring consistent communication rhythms for staff and families
  • Identifying gaps in systems, documentation, or workflows and proposing solutions
  • Supporting teaching artists through feedback, resources, and in-class support as needed
  • Beginning oversight of LINK Education League alignment, staffing, and reporting
  • Participating in community meetings or outreach opportunities representing OPPA!

  • Contributing to curriculum development and program improvement planning
  • Supporting education performances, showcases, and student events with visible leadership
  • Identifying opportunities for sustainable growth across education offerings
  • Presenting a clear education department roadmap for the upcoming term or season
