DAY MATRON/PORTER
JOB SUMMARY:
The day matron/porter performs manual labor associated with the cleaning of buildings. Duties require moderate physical strength and stamina. Work includes dust mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, waxing, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, polishing furniture, and operating basic mechanical cleaning equipment. An individual in this position may work independently, serve as an assistant to the building supervisor or act as a working supervisor with supervisory responsibility over other day matron/porters.
REGULAR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Empty trash containers, ashtrays, and recycle receptacles.
2. Police public areas.
3. Dust mop, sweep, wet mop, spray-buff floors.
4. Vacuum rugs and carpets.
5. Scrub and clean restroom fixtures and keep restroom supplied with towels, toilet tissue, soap, and other items.
6. Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, and other above-floor surfaces.
7. Dust, clean, and polish furniture.
8. Clean elevators and stairwells.
9. Police areas around outside of building.
10. Keep simple records and make simple reports.
11. Notify supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement.
12. Replace accessible light bulbs if required.
13. Perform related work as required and instructed.
OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS:
• Vacuum furniture, blinds and drapes.
• Wash windows.
• Wash and/or vacuum walls.
• Wash vents and radiators.
• Vacuum and wash light fixtures.
• Wash waste receptacles.
• Prepare and arrange meeting and conference rooms.
• Perform related work as required and instructed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
•Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
•Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
•Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
•Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions in the performance of the job.
•Ability to establish and maintain working relations with supervisor and fellow workers.
