Position Summary
The PM Maintenance Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides specialized technical and strategic support to the MSS-TA55 Maintenance Department at LANL. This role focuses on optimizing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, improving backlog management, supporting safety system assessments, and strengthening long-term maintenance planning and continuity. The SME will contribute to asset reliability, regulatory compliance, safety assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives across the TA-55 facility portfolio.
This role plays a critical advisory and execution support function within the MSS-TA55 Maintenance Department, directly contributing to improved asset health, safety performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term maintenance effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Shift will be dependent upon customer site discretion.

Responsibilities
- Preventive Maintenance (PM) Optimization
- Review and optimize preventive maintenance tasks, frequencies, and compliance requirements for critical mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems.
- Utilize Asset Suites CMMS to assess and improve PM effectiveness.
- Ensure all regulatory and life-safety obligations are met.
- Deliver optimized PM tasks and intervals, including updates to CMMS Attachment “A” for implementation.
- Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Program Development
- Design, develop, and support implementation of a predictive maintenance (PdM) program.
- Focus on early detection of equipment degradation and failure prediction.
- Integrate sensor data and maintenance history into maintenance decision-making.
- Reduce unplanned downtime, maintenance costs, and safety risks.
- Maintenance Backlog Management
- Establish and support a structured, healthy maintenance backlog process.
- Identify, categorize, prioritize, and manage corrective (CO), modification (MD), and deferred maintenance work.
- Improve backlog visibility, risk ranking, and active management to prevent unmanaged technical debt.
- Enhance asset reliability, safety, and compliance.
- Maintenance Management Succession Planning
- Support continuity and leadership readiness within the Maintenance Department.
- Identify and help develop qualified internal candidates for key management and supervisory roles.
- Assist with development plans, mentoring strategies, and knowledge transfer processes.
- Reduce leadership vacancy risk and strengthen long-term departmental stability.
- Vital Safety Systems Assessment (VSSA) Support
- Assist in evaluating the condition, effectiveness, and compliance of vital safety systems.
- Review maintenance practices, engineering design considerations, and operational readiness.
- Identify gaps and provide recommendations to maintain system integrity and compliance.
- Support protection of personnel, assets, and the environment.
- Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) Development Support
- Support development of the MSS-TA55 Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP).
- Align maintenance activities with organizational goals and mission priorities.
- Optimize asset reliability, cost effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide management with a data-driven, actionable maintenance roadmap, including priorities, budgets, and KPIs.
- HS Diploma or GED
- 10 years of Maintenance managment experience.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
- Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
- Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
