Position Summary
OMCO Solar is seeking an experienced Industrial IT Systems Engineer to support the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of the Array Controller platform for single-axis solar tracker systems. The Array Controller integrates industrial PCs, LoRaWAN gateways, cellular networking, and secure communications to support SCADA, remote monitoring, and fleet management.
This role focuses on network architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure reliability, and operational deployment of field systems, working closely with embedded, cloud, and application engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Industrial IT Infrastructure
• Design, configure, and maintain industrial PC platforms running Linux-based operating systems.
• Manage LoRaWAN gateways, edge networking, and site-level communications infrastructure.
• Manage deployment, validation, and lifecycle management of production system images and secure update mechanisms for Array Controllers
• Support hardware provisioning, commissioning, and remote diagnostics for field-deployed systems.
Networking & Connectivity
• Design and maintain secure network architectures supporting cellular (LTE/5G), Ethernet, VPNs, routing, and firewall policies.
• Support SCADA integration and remote monitoring interfaces.
• Monitor network performance, availability, latency, and data usage.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
• Define and enforce security policies for gateways and cloud connectivity.
• Implement system hardening, patching strategies, and vulnerability mitigation.
• Support compliance efforts, including NERC-CIP, where applicable.
• Manage certificate lifecycle and device identity
Systems Integration & Operations
• Support integration between Array Controllers and cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
• Maintain logging, telemetry, alerting, and remote health monitoring systems.
• Support upgrades, migrations, and recovery planning.
• Develop documentation and operating procedures.
Field Support & Reliability
• Support field troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Coordinate with vendors and integrators.
• Participate in system validation and scalability testing.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of experience in IT or industrial environments.
• Strong Linux administration.
• Experience with networking, cellular systems, cybersecurity, and SCADA.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with IoT gateways and LoRaWAN.
• Azure experience.
• Docker or container platforms.
• Scripting experience.
Reporting
Reports to the Director of Software and Electrical Engineering.
