Senior Economic Development Coordinator

Omaha Public Power District
Omaha, NE Full Time
POSTED ON 7/23/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/21/2026
Opportunity Profile

Help shape where businesses grow and communities thrive.

OPPD recognizes that economic prosperity is essential to creating vibrant, thriving communities. We are seeking a Senior Economic Development Coordinator to help businesses invest, expand, and succeed throughout OPPD's service territory.

In this highly visible role, you will connect business leaders, community partners, government agencies, economic-development organizations, and OPPD experts to move complex opportunities forward. Your work will strengthen communities, support existing customers, attract new investment, and position OPPD as a trusted energy and economic-development partner.

The impact you'll make

You will:

  • Lead economic-development programs and projects that strengthen communities and improve their ability to compete for business investment.
  • Manage Business Retention and Expansion outreach with key commercial and industrial customers, identifying growth opportunities and helping remove barriers to expansion.
  • Build relationships with companies headquartered outside Nebraska that have operations within OPPD's service territory, creating opportunities for stronger engagement and future investment.
  • Coordinate responses to business-attraction and site-selection inquiries by bringing together OPPD teams such as Planning, Engineering, and Customer Sales and Service.
  • Provide prospective businesses with clear, timely information regarding OPPD's service capabilities, anticipated costs, infrastructure needs, and project timelines.
  • Collaborate with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, chambers of commerce, local and regional development organizations, government agencies, and other partners to promote Nebraska to national and international prospects.
  • Lead the marketing of available sites and buildings through OPPD's website, the LocationOne Information System and other economic-development channels.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers, community leaders, development allies, and internal OPPD stakeholders.
  • Improve workflows, solve complex challenges, and provide guidance and mentorship to other team members.

What Success Looks Like

During your first 6-12 months, you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of OPPD's economic-development programs, internal capabilities, and partner network.
  • Establish productive relationships with community leaders, business customers, development allies, and key OPPD departments.
  • Begin contributing to business-attraction, retention, expansion, and site-selection opportunities.
  • Help advance OPPD's community-development strategy and outreach efforts.
  • Strengthen OPPD's website and site-property marketing presence.
  • Become a dependable resource who can coordinate complex requests, connect the right stakeholders, and keep projects moving forward.

Minimum Qualifications

You must possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Economic Development, Business, Electrical Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • Five years of work experience in economic development and/or business development with a focus on industrial or commercial customer relations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.

Desired Qualifications

The strongest candidates may also offer:

  • Electric utility experience.
  • Engineering skills and technical acumen.
  • Project-management skills.
  • Graduation from the Economic Development Institute.
  • Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation.

Work and travel expectations

This position requires travel both within and outside Nebraska. Most travel is expected to occur within OPPD's service territory, with occasional overnight travel for training, conferences, business recruitment, or community-development activities.

If you are energized by building relationships, advancing meaningful projects, and helping businesses and communities thrive, we invite you to bring your experience to OPPD.
