Essential Duties
The Operations & Maintenance Technician (3rd Class) plays a vital role in supporting the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) facilities. As part of one of the nation¿s largest publicly owned electric utilities, this position helps ensure that OPPD¿s buildings, systems, and infrastructure operate at peak performance to support the District¿s mission of providing affordable, dependable, and environmentally responsible energy to the communities it serves. The technician performs daily diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and control systems; assists with new construction and equipment installations; and contributes to the overall reliability of facility operations through skilled analysis, hands¿on maintenance, and effective problem¿solving. This role is essential to maintaining the high standards of safety, service, and operational excellence that define OPPD.
Shift
Time Demands:
Essential Position: This position will be required to report to work when business continuity needs are emergent and may be required to work hours beyond an employee's normal shift.
This position must be available for overtime work and callouts as required to ensure continuance of efficient operation.
Work Location:
Office: Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.
Field: Work will be performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.
Generation Plant: Work will be performed inside with exposure to industrial building conditions and will be exposed to extreme temperatures, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation and exposure to sounds. Noise levels may require shouting to be heard.
Work Environment: Choose all that apply.
Work will be performed in high traffic environments.
Will work around energies high voltage electrical equipment.
Will work in construction areas that present many physical hazards.
Will work in closed or confined spaces.
Physical Demands:
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50 lbs.) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.

- Supports the day-to-day work on a daily basis by performing various testing and diagnosis for the Operation and Maintenance department.
- Analyze, operate and program the direct digital control computer system used to control the HVAC facility operations.
- Perform diagnostic testing and analyze results of the electrical and HVAC hardware control systems using state of the art instrumentation equipment.
- Assist and or install HVAC installation and/or repair of equipment for maintenance and/or new construction of District facilities, including air handlers, heat pumps, piping, ductwork and controls.
- Assist and or install 480 volt and below electrical components and wiring systems for maintenance activities and new construction projects in District facilities.
- Perform general construction and other skilled craft functions for both new construction and maintenance
- Associates degree in air conditioning and/or electrical technology with 2 to 3 years related experience or the equivalent.
- Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical operation of building equipment, associated components and computerized control systems.
- Must be able to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace equipment associated with building mechanical and electrical systems.
- Working with a minimum amount of supervision
- Valid driver's license
- Technical training and/or experience in the areas of refrigeration and heat pump systems is highly desired
- City of Omaha Third Grade engineer's license
