Job Description/General Function
The Healthy Living Manager is responsible for the scheduling, developing, and management of all Wellness Center Coaches, Personal Trainers, and Group Exercise Instructors at the YMCA Branch. Responsibilities also include supervision of all Wellness Programs (land and water,) classes and personal training connections with the contingent contracts. The Healthy Living Manager, in cooperation with the Member Services Manager, will also implement and manage association systems with practices that support extraordinary member/participant experiences in the wellness center. These systems will include equipment orientations, personal training sessions, classes, exercise challenges, and other relationship-based activities that further connect members/participants with the YMCA movement.
Responsibilities
- Establishes rapport with members, learns and uses names, and creates a welcoming atmosphere
- Provides leadership and coaching to Wellness Center staff
- Ensures adequate staffing/volunteer coverage for all assigned activities and shifts
- Creates an accurate schedule of group classes for the public
- In cooperation with the Member Services Manager, implement the association onboarding program for new members
- Collects and provides data on the program(s)
- Participates in marketing, membership, and retention activities with appropriate Association and Branch staff
- Manages the budget for assigned area(s)
- Identifies and resolves problems to ensure programs are meeting goals and community needs
- Evaluates programs and make timely adjustments to ensure program success
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
- Develops procedures and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs in accordance with association marketing plans. Includes meeting-specific deadlines
- Monitors equipment, new member comments, cleaning schedule, and other pertinent information and reports to the appropriate staff person, to ensure timely and effective follow-up
- Maintain general knowledge of all YMCA programs and events
- Works effectively in both a team environment and independently
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Promote volunteer recruitment and retention
- Follows all association hiring/coaching policies and follows new hire training/onboarding procedures. Employee ongoing coaching will include 30-day, 90-day, and annual check-ins.
- Accurately approve assigned timecards in the required time frame
Required Skills and Experience
- 21 years of age or older
- Have an outgoing personality with strong leadership skills
- Back knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology required
- Must be reliable, flexible, and adaptable
- Good communication and organizational skills and possess the ability to provide excellent customer service
- Two or more years of related experience including staff/volunteer supervision
- Experience creating, managing, and updating a budget
- Current CPR and first-aid certification or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
- Pass a comprehensive background check
- Ability to relate well to children and adults of all ages, in all circumstances
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
- High functioning computer skills
- Current nationally recognized personal training certificate
Additional Expectations and Duties
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as required and completes all online trainings which includes child abuse prevention training within 7 days of hire
- Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. Adheres to policies to boundaries with youths
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations in accordance with mandated reporting requirements
- Responsible for general housekeeping tasks to ensure the workspace is always clean
- Submits hours worked accurately on the electronic timecard, within timelines for supervisor approval
- Passion for high standards and beliefs in the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility
- Flexible schedule as needed as on occasion may need to work evenings and/or weekends
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Environment
- Generally, inside Wellness Center and Y facility
Physical Abilities
- Bending at the waist to pick up supplies, lead classes, and perform daily cleaning tasks
- Ability to appropriately demonstrate necessary class movements, techniques, and routines
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment
