Job Summary:
A Behavior Health Specialist (BHS)- Education provides behavioral support and services to pediatrics, adolescents, and adults, adjusting for the effects of age, culture, background, experience and developmental status. As a teacher of life skills and behavior management specialist, this employee directly supervises clients in areas of programming and activities.
Essential Job Duties:
- Responsible for the direct supervision of the clients at all times.
- Teaches clients living skills such as decision making, personal control, interpersonal communication and problem solving, dressing, grooming and eating.
- Instructs and monitors to ensure that the daily routine, structure and habilitative programming is maintained and all related standards are met.
- Administers medications and documents such according
- to agency policy and procedure.
- Supervises and assists in transporting clients requiring driving agency van.
- Manages a clean and safe work environment.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of the treatment plan.
- Interacts with students in ways that are therapeutic, respectful and trauma sensitive.
- Utilizes preventative and de-escalation techniques that are consistent with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).
- Completes all required paperwork
- (e.g.: IR, ICMP,BIP, Monthly summaries, daily logs etc.)
- Performs any other duties listed on the program specific responsibility checklist assigned by the
- supervisor.
- Immediately handles increased levels of behavior management that cannot be handled in the classroom.
- Any other duty as requested by your supervisor.
- Consistent Communication with educational team & Residential team as appropriate.
- Assists Students in maintaining and succeeding with individual behavior plans.
- Any other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Education/Experience:
At least one of the following must be met:
- High School Diploma/ GED with 5 years experience in mental health field
- Associate's Degree In Human Services or related field with 2years’experience In mental health field
Required License/Registration/Certification:
Valid NYS Driver’s License

Physical Requirements:
- The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical
- exertion required.
- There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.
- The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/ foot coordination.
- The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
