What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Building Systems Technician position at Olmsted County?

A combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of work experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Required Special Qualifications:
- Valid Minnesota Special Class Engineers License.
- Valid Minnesota Second Class – C boiler license or higher within 2 years of hire.
- Registration as an unlicensed power limited technician within 6 months of employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Licensed as a Minnesota power limited technician (PLT).
- Performs preventive maintenance tasks on building equipment and systems including secured areas such as the Adult Detention Center and Work Release Facility.
- Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains life safety equipment and mechanical equipment. Replaces defective or faulty parts and fabricates and installs replacements parts and new equipment as needed.
- Repairs, operates, monitors, and maintains Facilities Management Systems (FMS).
- Repairs and maintains plumbing and plumbing fixtures throughout facilities.
- Repairs and maintains low voltage electrical equipment.
- Maintains and repairs low pressure steam systems.
- Orders and maintains parts inventory.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Diagnoses problems, selects appropriate tools, and makes corrective changes.
- Performs routine welding operations in the repair of equipment.
- Operates forklifts and personnel lifts as needed.
- Repairs, maintains, and operates electronic and pneumatic temperature controls throughout facilities.
- Mentors and trains new employees and interns.
- Performs weeknights and weekend emergency call backs and checks of buildings and equipment when required.
- Performs related tasks as assigned.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the operation of buildings.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation of fire protection systems.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation of emergency generators.
- Knowledge of safety procedures associated with maintenance operations, tasks, and repairs.
- Skill in the use of computers and technology.
- Skill in operating digital temperature control systems
- Skill organizing assigned workload.
- Skill in performing repairs and maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Skill in performing a variety of plumbing repairs and maintenance.
- Skill in the use of tools, electronic meters and materials commonly used in building, maintenance, and repairs on miscellaneous related projects.
- Skill in operating building automation systems.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions and assignments.
- Ability to plan, layout and work from diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.
