Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience
THIS IS A PROVISIONAL, TEMPORARY SIX (6) MONTH POSITION.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Individuals will be required to complete a pre-employment and any potential post-accident drug test as these positions are deemed safety sensitive. Regardless of Minnesota statute, marijuana and other drugs will disqualify individuals from initial and continued employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in the operation and servicing of light to medium mowing equipment and one (1) year of experience in grounds keeping, building maintenance or related position.
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, assists with park maintenance, operating equipment, cleaning buildings and performing minor building repairs. Operation of the equipment involves the manipulation of the controls and attachments and includes routine care and maintenance of the equipment in the field. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
Examples of Work
- Performs general park maintenance duties
- Operates riding and push mowers, weed trimmer, pickup truck
- Mows County park lands operating riding and push mowers
- Maintains park equipment and vehicles such as tractors, mowers, trucks, etc., changing oil, lubricating and making minor adjustments
- Trims grasses and weeds around trees and buildings. Rakes and picks up fallen tree branches and other debris around picnic and park areas
- Maintains buildings and fences on park property, performing minor interior and exterior repair
- Staffs the park gate as assigned to collect fees from campers and provide park information. Sells firewood to campers
- Cleans buildings, floors, bathrooms, sinks, etc.
- Answers questions from park visitors and enforces park regulations
- Performs related work as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the operating characteristics of assigned equipment
- Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment
- Knowledge of the maintenance requirements of assigned equipment
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate with park users
- Ability to make minor operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment
