A Student Finance Coordinator (SFC) is one who is responsible for counseling residential and online students regarding financing their education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to all Olivet students and families as a “one-stop shop” for all financial questions and concerns. This includes answering questions via phone, email, and in-person as well as proactively reaching out to students when necessary to ensure they are well informed about their financial obligations and options.
- Stay up-to-date about all relevant financial aid requirements, policies and procedures from federal, state, institutional, and outside sources. Advise students and families regarding methods of obtaining financial aid from all available sources. Where appropriate, the SFC will advise and assist in the completion of financial aid forms and application materials, informing students of appropriate federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures.
- Understand and explain a student’s account activity (charges, financial aid, payment plans, etc.) through Colleague and/or self-service.
- Proactively contact and work with students who fall behind in payments to find solutions to help them stay enrolled.
- Assist online students with setting up their payment arrangements and answering financial questions prior to the start of their program. This includes proactive outreach by phone and email in the weeks leading up to their start date and coordinating efforts with the online Admissions team.
- Provide financial estimates for prospective online students or current students wishing to change their schedule so that they understand the financial implications of their decision.
- Serve as a back-up for the cashier as needed. This includes assisting with processing payments, distributing payroll/refund checks that are picked up in person, cashing checks, etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to practice confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job will not be a supervisor of staff, faculty, students, or volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

- Effective Communication Skills, both written and verbal. This role requires effective communication with students as well as other departments across campus.The SFC must represent, both in attitude, speech, and appearance the ideals of Christian communication, exercising courtesy, patience, and consistency.
- Customer Service Skills: The SFC must have the ability to communicate sometimes difficult financial information to students and families. This includes sometimes delivering bad news with patience and compassion.
- Organizational Skills: The SFC must be well organized, with the ability to properly prioritize and manage their time to ensure timely communication with students.
- Attention to detail is needed so that students receive accurate information regarding their account and financial aid.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics functions and learn how to complete some financial calculations related to financial aid and student account balances.
- Ability to perform certain basic computer functions and work within required software including, but not limited to, Colleague, Etrieve, Salesforce, and Microsoft Office.
- Successful work history in a setting similar to the position for which the candidate is applying is preferred.
Additional Information
EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Student Finance Coordinator will work in the Miller Business Center, with potential work in other buildings on campus during special events. Standard office environment, no major sources of discomfort. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The salary for this position is $16.75/hour and is based on experience and education level.
