POSITION SUMMARY

Provides administrative oversight, leadership, planning, coordinating and control of OPC transportation services, staff, equipment, software and facilities; provides safe transportation opportunities for members and ensures efficient operations. Supervision is exercised over all transportation personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides leadership and direction in the delivery of transportation services provided by OPC.
  • Administers, supervises and manages staff of the Transportation department; monitors and evaluates performance of staff members; addresses day-to-day issues and questions; assesses and provides for training needs; initiates employee recognition, promotion, disciplinary action, and discharge processes as necessary and appropriate.
  • Regularly communicates with staff to keep everyone informed and reinforce importance of excellent customer service and safety.
  • Encourages staff participation in developing efficiencies and enhancements to services.
  • Schedules staff to maintain adequate coverage while allowing for time off. Manages time-off requests, reviews and approves weekly payroll.
  • Ensures all staff are up to date on department training, certifications and DOT physicals/drug tests.
  • Researches, recommends, develops and implements policy and procedures for operational effectiveness, customer service, collaboration, safety and efficiency.
  • Interviews and selects new employees. Ensures proper training is received.
  • Communicates and collaborates with public agencies and transit officials serving Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township, Oakland County, SMART, WOTA and NOTA to address and resolve regional transit issues.
  • Ensures accurate and complete compliance documents and maintains vehicle inspection schedules.
  • Applies for and administers transit grants from state and federal agencies.
  • Prepares and submits required federal, state and local financial, statistical and operating reports.
  • Monitors and evaluates transportation software and performance. Recommends improvements where needed.
  • Ensures federal and state compliance with vehicle, equipment, and fleet maintenance programs.
  • Develops and recommends budget requests to the Executive Director; forecasts funding for operational needs, staff, and equipment. Monitors budget, contracts, and outside services.
  • Authorizes expenditures, projects revenues, identifies and develops future capital improvement projects and equipment replacement.
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints and ensures proper follow-through.
  • Follows all policies for reporting, investigating, and follow-up of equipment/vehicle incidents, and/or staff injuries. Investigates all incidents and prepares written reports.
  • May work extended hours to accommodate the needs of the department and organization such as evening or weekend events as required throughout the year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, logistics, transportation, engineering, facilities management or related field; and
  • Have at least five (5) years’ experience in transportation, logistics, facility management, public administration or related area; and
  • Have previous supervisory experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess or obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must maintain a valid Driver's License and obtain a Chauffer’s License.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,345.00 - $84,406.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
