Position Overview
The Sanitation Worker is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing production equipment, work areas, processing rooms, warehouses, and common areas throughout the facility. This position plays a critical role in supporting food safety, employee safety, and regulatory compliance by ensuring that all sanitation procedures are completed accurately and consistently. This position requires physical labor, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
Reports to: Sanitation Supervisor
Department: Quality Assurance / Sanitation
Job Responsibilities
· Clean and sanitize bakery equipment, production lines, racks, conveyors, mixers, tables, and utensils.
· Disassemble and reassemble equipment for cleaning as instructed.
· Sweep, scrub, mop, wash, and sanitize production and warehouse floors.
· Remove trash, recycling, and waste materials from designated areas.
· Clean restrooms, breakrooms, offices, locker rooms, and common areas as assigned.
· Follow Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
· Support company food safety, quality assurance, and sanitation programs by maintaining assigned equipment and work areas in a clean, sanitary and inspection-ready condition.
· Properly mix, handle, and use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
· Complete sanitation logs and cleaning records accurately.
· Report equipment damage, maintenance concerns, and safety hazards to supervision.
· Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, and company policies.
· Assist other departments as needed to support business operations.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Previous sanitation, janitorial, warehouse, manufacturing, or food production experience preferred.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
· Ability to work safely and effectively in a food manufacturing environment.
· Dependable attendance and punctuality.
· Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
· Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of sanitation practices within a food manufacturing environment preferred.
· Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, and sanitation requirements.
· Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, sanitation tools, pressure washers, hoses, and cleaning equipment.
· Ability to identify equipment, facility, and food safety concerns and report them promptly.
· Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize areas requiring additional cleaning or corrective action.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and complete sanitation assignments within established timeframes.
· Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
· Ability to adapt to changing production schedules and sanitation priorities.
· Ability to accurately complete sanitation records and documentation.
· Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and food-safe manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding position that requires continuous movement and physical activity throughout the entire shift.
Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and walk for the majority of an 8-12 hour shift.
- Frequently bend, kneel, squat, reach, climb, and twist.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Push and pull sanitation equipment, carts, hoses, and waste containers.
- Perform repetitive cleaning motions throughout the workday.
- Work in wet, humid, cold, hot, and noisy environments.
- Safely work around cleaning chemicals and food manufacturing equipment.
