Long-Term Substitute Teacher — Reading Intervention Position Type: Long-Term Substitute · Term: October – December 2026 · Compensation: $200/day Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher with a background in special education or literacy to support our Grade 5–6 students from October through December. The primary responsibility of this role is facilitating daily reading intervention small groups, delivering targeted, structured literacy instruction to students who need intensive support. What You’ll Do Reading Intervention Instruction Facilitate daily small-group reading intervention sessions for Grade 5–6 students using structured, evidence-based literacy approaches Deliver targeted instruction in decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension matched to each group’s assessed skill levels Use student data — including iReady, DIBELS, and teacher-identified progress indicators — to guide instructional decisions within groups Maintain accurate records of student participation, progress, and response to intervention Communicate regularly with the classroom teachers and intervention coordinator about student progress and any concerns Student Support and Collaboration Work with students in a way that builds confidence, persistence, and a sense of themselves as capable readers Support students in applying skills from intervention to their broader classroom reading, coordinating with teachers as needed Collaborate with special education staff where students’ IEPs include reading-related goals, following established accommodations and service plans Participate in team check-ins and contribute observations about student growth and needs Classroom and Community Responsibilities Maintain a focused, structured environment during intervention sessions that maximizes student learning time Support broader instructional coverage as needed — at OSA, substitute teachers are contributing members of our crew, not placeholders Uphold OSA’s culture, expectations, and values throughout each day What You Bring Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Valid Massachusetts DESE educator license required — Special Education, Elementary, or Literacy/Reading Specialist licensure strongly preferred Background in special education and/or structured literacy instruction, with experience delivering small-group intervention Familiarity with evidence-based reading intervention programs and approaches (e.g., Wilson, Fundations, RAVE-O, or similar) Experience working with students in grades 4–8 with diverse learning profiles, including students with IEPs and reading disabilities Comfort using assessment data to form instructional groups and adjust instruction Strong interpersonal skills — you build rapport with students quickly and communicate clearly with colleagues Reliability, professionalism, and the flexibility to work effectively within an existing school structure and team Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation/gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
