About this Position
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small animals. Successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
This is a full-time position with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Every full-time employee receives a full benefits package. The VTH is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24 hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. The VTH admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes 5-8 ICU cases per day. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, capnography, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and central venous pressure monitoring, Pleur-Evac® suction units, and ventilator therapy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with 20 small animal specialists, as well as a supportive group of interns and residents. Required Qualifications
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years’ experience.
Veterinary Technician I - Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.
Veterinary Technician II - Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Veterinary Technician III - Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.
Senior Veterinary Technician - Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.
Veterinary Technician Specialist I - Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Veterinary Technician Specialist II - Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
- Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
- Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, diagnostic lab equipment, electrodiagnostic equipment, and ECG, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.
